Ring railway — New connection to Vantaa and the airport

We were responsible for the tasks of the construction contractor consultant, including project management, planning management, procurement, contract management and site supervision. The customer was the Rail Department of the Finnish Transport Agency.

Key figures:

• Twin track passenger traffic track, 18 km long (including 8.1 km inside a tunnel)
• Maximum train speed 120 km/h
• 5 new train stations, 12 station reservations
• 33 bridges, including 12 rail bridges
• Street and road arrangements, 9 km
• Parking facilities for 1550 vehicles and 950 bicycles
• Cost estimate €610 million

Rinteensilta, Oulu

• Renovating the 60-m bridge over the Nuoritta river and a 3-km forest road
• We were responsible for the design construction and supervision.
• The work was ordered by the City of Oulu, Technical Department, Street and Greenscaping unit and the Road Administration.

Vuosaari port, Helsinki

The port is the main point of export for Finnish foreign trade. Our work included project management, implementation tasks and site supervision. The work was ordered by Port of Helsinki.

Key figures of the project:

• The total surface area of the port is about 150 ha, over 90 ha of which have been reclaimed from the sea for construction.
• 50 ha business area
• Almost 20 million m³ of digging, excavation, dredging and landfill
• Dredging and filling works can extend to depths of over 30 metres
• 4000 m of quays consisting of a total of about 20 ship berths, depending on the of the vessels
• Modern loading and container processing equipment
• The project began in early 2003 and was completed in late 2008
• Total project costs almost €400 million

Improvement of main road 170, Östersundom

• A new bridge was built on main road 170 along with a 600-m tyre bale section in the flood area in Östersundom.
• This is the first time tyre bales have been used to replace soil on a section this large in Finland.
• We were responsible for tender documents and construction project supervision.
• The client was the Finnish Road Administration, Uusimaa road district.

Improvement of Ring Road I

• The stops and lighting for the ramps on Ring Road I were renewed between Malminkaari and Latokartanontie.
• We were responsible for the design construction and supervision.
• The client was the Finnish Road Administration, Uusimaa road district.

Improvement of Itäväylä

• On Itäväylä, the exit to Riskutie was improved and equipped with traffic lights.
• Noise barriers as well as pedestrian and bicycle paths were built between Ring Road I and Riskutie.
• We were responsible for the design construction and supervision.
• The client was the Finnish Road Administration, Uusimaa road district.

Improvement of road 9552

• Road 9552 was improved between Kiistala and Rouravaara.
• We were responsible for the design construction and supervision.
• The client was Agnico-Eagle Finland.

Kevitsa mine road, Sodankylä

• In order to make the mining operation possible, a new road connection to the Kevitsa mining area was built in the village of Petkula.
• The road length up to the end of the mine concession is 7.6 km.
• The new Valjusuvanto bridge, a three-span prestressed concrete bridge, was built over the Kitisenjoki river.
• A new reinforced concrete slab bridge was built over the Mataraoja stream.
• We were responsible for the design construction and supervision.
• The client was Kevitsa Mining Oy.
